The comparisons between the new Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S are inevitable. Also, if you currently own an iPhone 4S, one question you might ask is do I really need an upgrade to the new version? Well, it’s worth the debate but taking into consideration the sleek new body along with the new iOS 6 interface, iPhone 5 is definitely going to enthrall consumers. The iPhone 5 will release on September 21 and the pre-order begins Sept 14. But before you place your order for the new smartphone, you would like to compare the two versions of iPhones according to various specs and functions. We are going to do that for you.

Release date
While the iPhone 4S released last year and was available from Oct 14, 2011, the iPhone 5 will release on September 21. The iPhone 4S was unveiled by Apple CEO Tim Cook as “Let’s Talk iPhone” since it introduced one of the most popular feature Siri, a voice recognition software for iPhone.

Price
On the price front, Apple has managed to set the same rate for iPhone 5 as that of iPhone 4S: $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB. But the better part is the Cupertino has decreased the price of iPhone 4S to $99 for 16 GB model meaning a better bargain for consumers. Since the iPhone 4S will also be upgraded to iOS 6, consumers won’t see it as a bad investment.

Operating System
The iPhone 4S runs on iOS 5.1.1 but the iPhone 5 will arrive with a brand new operating system, the iOS 6. It brings with it new and enhanced features like Passbook, a new Maps app, new calendar, 3D satellite imagery and many more. However, iPhone 4S holders don’t need to worry as Apple has promised to update devices as old the iPhone 3GS to iOS 6. So 4S users, get ready for iOS 6.

Processor & Memory
The processor is enhanced in the new iPhone 5 with A6 chip taking the center stage. The new chip boasts of 2 times better performance than the chip found in the older version however, the exact speed of the processor is not yet known. As far as iPhone 4S is concerned, it came with a dual core 800 MHz A5 chip and 512 MB of RAM. We are expecting the iPhone 5 to come with at least 1 GB of RAM.

Display & Storage
Yes, the iPhone 5 comes with a larger display, 4-inch Retina display with 326 PPI. It sports a resolution of 1136 x 640 and a 16:9 aspect ratio while its predecessor has 3.5 inch screen size with a resolution of 640×960 at 326 PPI. The iPhone 5 offers same storage options as iPhone 4S: 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB.

Network
For the first time iPhone comes with 4G. The iPhone 5 will support HSPA+, DC-HSDPA and LTE. The WiFi connectivity feature has also improved on the new iPhone with speeds up to 15MBps. No 4G was available before on iPhone 4S.

Weight and Dimensions
The new version of iPhone is lighter and thinner than its predecessor. Compared to iPhone 4S which was 9.3 mm thick and weighed 140 grams, the iPhone 5 is 20% lighter at 112 grams and 18% thinner at 7.6 mm.

Finally, the wait is over for all iPhone enthusiasts. Apple has just unveiled its new next generation smartphone, the Apple  iPhone 5 at its press event in San Francisco. Now we won’t call it the “new iPhone 5” because it’s official that the name given to this new phone is “iPhone 5”.

Some days before, we posted an article on all the latest rumors surrounding the release of new iPhone 5 and barring a few, almost ninety percent of those rumors have come true. In fact, iPhone 5 hasn’t brought any major surprises with many features expected including the A6 processor, new dimensions, new smaller port, thinner, lighter design and the best of all, 4G LTE connectivity.
Now let’s look in detail the specs of the iPhone 5. It sports the same retina display as seen in the predecessor however, the resolution increases at 1,136-by-640 pixels. Apple has incorporated the in-cell technology in screens due to which it is 30 percent lighter. According to Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller the new technology will make screen sharper and reduce glare while viewing under direct sunlight.
The iPhone 5 features the same 8 mega pixel camera, albeit in a smaller size. It is believed to be 25 percent smaller than earlier cameras in iPhones. It captures full HD videos at 1080p and you can click photos while recording video. Other features include backside illumination, a hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, f/2.4 aperture and a Panorama mode.

The build quality of iPhone 5 is decent. It is composed mainly of glass and aluminum and is 20 percent lighter and 18 percent thinner than the iPhone 4S. It packs inside a powerful A6 processor which is touted as 2 times faster than the previous A5 chip. The battery life is also longer in the new iPhone. Apple has said that the battery will help phone remain in standby for 225 hours. It will provide a talk time of 8 hours, 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music playback and 8 hours of 4G browsing.
The iPhone 5 will provide plethora of connectivity features that include built-in GPRS, EDGE, EVDO, HSPA, HSPA+ 21, DC HSPA 42 and LTE. The smartphone will feature a new faster performing WiFi. Also, the old 30 pin dock connector is replaced by a new smaller 8 pin dock connector.
The iPhone 5 will start shipping from September 21 in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. For the rest of the world, it will be available by the end of the year and Apple has said that it will sell its phone in more than 100 countries through 240 carrier partners.
Apple’s new smartphone will arrive in two different colors, black and white. You can start pre-ordering your piece of iPhone 5 from September 14. For a two year contract, you will get the iPhone 5 for $199 (16GB), $299 (32GB) and $399 (64GB). In fact, if you still love the older version, the iPhone 4S, it now comes at just $99 for 16 GB while you don’t need to spend a penny for 8GB iPhone 4. Yes, it will come for free.
According to 9to5mac.com, preorders from Sprint for iPhone 5 will begin at 12:01 AM, September 14 while Verizon has said that it requires you to pay full amount for the iPhone 5 to keep your unlimited data plan.
